Played over 9 holes instead of the normal 18, PowerPlay Golf gives golfers two flags to aim at on every green. You score extra points if you 'PowerPlay' to the black flag, which is in an extra-hard position.
Keen golfers have praised PowerPlay Golf for being an attacking, exciting format of the classic game, in a faster timescale well suited to modern life.
The format will soon be seen on TV, and over 42 countries worldwide will be hosting events. The UK is the first country to get PowerPlay Golf, which launched in summer 2007, and Scott Greens Golf Club is one of the first 150 golf clubs to become an Official Venue for the game.
Over one million golfers worldwide are predicted to become 'PowerPlayers', with national championships and big prizes planned in many countries.
SCOTT GREENS GOLF CLUB is perfectly suited for the PPG format because of its many chances for birdie and eagle opportunities. An officially licensed venue with tournaments scheduled for 2009, Scott Greens GC will also be set up every Wednesday during the season for PPG play. (Bring your golf buddies and enjoy an even more exciting way to play 'scats.')
Corey McAlarney, Golf Professional and business co-owner, said: "We're looking forward to holding PowerPlay Golf events here. It takes half the time of a normal game of golf, it's simple and exciting to play, our members and visitors will love it, and it has that vital 'X-Factor'. We're proud to be in at the start of something that - we believe - will energize golf. This format works well for corporate 'Work and Play Outings' during the week also."
PowerPlay Golf, the exciting new nine-hole, two flags competitive format for golf, enables golfers to play in an attacking style to score extra points. Golfers go for a set amount of 'PowerPlays' in a nine-hole round of golf by aiming for the Black Flag on the green as opposed to the White Flag, and can amass large scores if they are successful on a PowerPlay. There is a 'risk and reward' factor - the Black Flag is always in a very difficult position. The game is enjoyable for all standards of golfer, all ages and both sexes.
